Matthew Underwood has been the music director and conductor of Gig Harbor PeninsulaCivic Orchestra since its inception. His interest in music began with piano lessons in the second grade and viola in the fourth. Graduation was from Cleveland High School and he's very proud to say he's a product of public education. He went to the University of Washington, graduating with a BA and BM (music). He taught at Charles Wright Academy, going back to the UW in the summers to eventually earn his MA in Music Education. He later moved to the Tacoma Public Schools where he taught string orchestra at Gray Middle School, Baker Middle School and Mount Tahoma and is currently teaching string orchestra at Meeker Middle School and Stadium High School. |
